At YWCA Central Alabama, we are a social justice organization committed to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.

Since 1903, our work has stood at the intersection of race and gender equity. We design our programs to address systemic disparities and respond to the evolving needs of women and families in our community. Each day, we provide safe, affordable housing and work to ensure families experiencing homelessness can remain together during times of crisis. We support survivors of domestic violence as they leave unsafe situations, rebuild their lives, and move forward with strength and stability.

Our nationally accredited child development program gives children experiencing homelessness and those from working low-income families access to high-quality early education—setting a strong foundation for lifelong success.

In 2026, YWCA Central Alabama proudly marks 124 years of service to Birmingham and the surrounding communities. For more than a century, we have served women and families with unwavering passion and commitment—building a more just and caring community with every generation. Decades of Passion honors this legacy while investing in the future, celebrating 124 years of impact and the work still ahead.
